I am going to start looking for a new credit card.
I always pay my bill at the end of the month to prevent interest, so I need a card that uses this to my advantage. Meaning the most cash back that I can get... Also online billing and accessing my account are musts. Anyone have any recommendations? Is there a card that has a good bonus offer (the 0% intro APRs aren't terribly important to me as I pay the bill off) such as free shtuff? Of course, a 0 annual fee is a given... TIA! |

I've had Discover for several years now, and I've always had the 5% gas/groceries 1% everything else cash back. My rate is pretty high though. And its not accepted everywhere, like Visa and MC.
I also have a MasterCard through Citibank that offers the same cashback, with a lower rate. I think its a Platinum Select dividend super special cashback card.. or something really long.

Yeah...... I've had the Platinum card before they offered the 1% cash back right off the bat. I wish they just auto-upgraded me when they started doing it. At least they lowered my APR though. ![]() Discover is pretty widely accepted around here. But it's still now what Visa and MC is in terms of stores taking it. I might try for a Citibank MasterCard and cancel my Captial One Master Card when I get it. |

Not a credit card, but we use our USAA check card everywhere. We get 0.5% cashback plus earn interest on whatever sits in our checking account through the month. It's a Mastercard, so you don't run into the problems of Discover not being accepted.
They also have a credit card with a higher % cashback...I'll have to go look up the details. BRB

Here's the thing...it looks like you have to be a USAA member in order to get the credit card, but here are the details (in case you qualify):
USAA Cash RewardsSM Platinum MasterCard® Earn cash back on every purchase with no limit to the amount you can earn each year. Rates as low as 5.25% APR on purchases1 No annual fee Cash rebates up to 1.25% on every purchase2 Exclusive Platinum and military benefits3 1 Current APRs are 5.25% to 15.15% on Purchases and 8.25% to 18.15% on Cash Advances. The APRs are variable rates. The APRs on your account will be determined when your application is approved based on your credit history and other factors. If any payment is 30 days late, the Delinquency APR, which are three percentage points higher, will apply until three consecutive payments are made on time. All credit cards are subject to credit card approval. Information is accurate as of December 15, 2004. 2 USAA Cash Rewards MasterCard points are earned on net purchases only. The rebate for a particular purchase ranges between .35% and 1.25% based on your annual total purchases. Account must be current and not over its credit limit to earn or use points. Program only available to USAA members eligible for USAA property and casualty insurance. Additional restrictions apply. 3 Complete details are provided with your card.

Discover a nightmare!
I worked for discover card. I don't have much time to go into details, so I'll just say I wouldn't recommend it. While this was a few years back, I doubt their policy of raising interests rates and hoping people wouldn't get too mad has changed. My job was to keep people from closing their accounts, and if they did, call them a month later and beg them to come back. Customers that had been with the company for YEARS and YEARS got huge rate increases. The only thing I'd recommend this card for is using it like a debit card in order to earn the nice rewards, and then paying it off monthly. If ur looking to carry a balance, USAA is the way to go.
Ok, so I guess I went into some detail.

Funny, I never have had a rate increase with my Discover card. Only decreases. With that being said, i've never carried a balance for very long either (basically use it for the cash back as you said).
Thanks for the advice though. USAA won't jack up the interest rate? |

That's what I do. It's silly to carry any interest over 7% these days. If you have debt, open an equity line and borrow against that... That should be 6-7% at most. So far I've earned over $100 in cash back from my Discover Gas and Discover platinum.
